Where to start?

Before pursuing a career in translation, it’s a good idea to think about whether you would be suited to it. Some of the skills required are:

• Excellent knowledge of at least two foreign languages as well as your native tongue;
• Attention to detail;
• Good time management;
• Self-motivation;
• Stamina;
• Research skills;
• Computer literacy.

Many skills can be learned with a postgraduate degree or with general experience, but some cannot. A translation career won’t be for everyone! If you’re not sure whether it’s for you, why not browse our website further, apply for work experience or attend a careers event?
